Prevent your PS3 from overheating and evade the yellow light of death!

Here in the UK the temperature is rising now we are in summer. I am sitting there with my game running in my PS3 listening to the fans working hard to keep the PS3 at a safe operating temperature. The main cause of the dreaded YLOD (yellow light of death) is through overheating. Here are a few things you can do to keep your PS3 happy and cool.

Make sure that there is plenty of room for air to flow through and around it
Keep it out of and away from:

Heaters (not that you would use one in summer)
Entertainment centres
Any enclosed location
Directly on carpet.

Try the following at your own risk! No responsibility accepted.

If you have had your PS3 1 year or more there could be a chance the air vents are collecting dust. If there is dust on the vents there will also be dust on the inside. With your PS3 unplugged/off get your vacuum cleaner with the brush nozzle on and give it a good hoover on the vents. Then perform a fan test to blow out that dust.

HOW TO DO FAN TEST:
40GB VERSION
1.TURN OFF POWER FROM BACK OF CONSOLE
2. HOLD THE EJECT BUTTON AND TURN ON POWER
3. U SHOULD HEAR LOUD FAN NOISE FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS
4. THE POWER LIGHT WILL TURN RED AND THE BEEP NOISE WILL HAPPEN
5.TURN POWER OFF
6.TURN POWER ON AND FINISHED

The only way to be sure all dust has gone is take the cover off your PS3. If you feel competent enough to remove the PS3 cover and clean the inside out check out the movie below:



I have my room cooling fan blowing directly on my PS3 to help keep the PS3 a bit happier

I am doing fun test every three months and ps3 still working silenced even if its 2,5 years old heh

This sounds useful, do you have a picture of this you can post up?

A lot of people don't realise how a little bit of hoovering on the vents can save them big money. The build up of dust has wrecked a few PS3's to my knowledge, keep them clean!

Well I do not have the picture but I can post from google if you guys want that wont a problem
