| I was wondering if i can get some insight into my problem. My issue is that recently my ps3 has been acting erratically, games keep on freezing more often. Some games more than others, for example Fifa 09 can't be played for more than 5 minutes without it freezing. Blu-ray movies have also started to freeze, there's no problem with the disc. If anyone has any information what so ever it would be much appreciated. It is a 60 GB PS3 bought brand new in May 2007. | |

| Hey.
Sounds odd, never heard of anything like this. One thing to check is that your system's firmware is up to date. If it is, you may have a dud hard drive or Blu-Ray drive. Probably the best thing to do would be to ring up Playstation or go to a local repair shop.

| Do you have your ps3 in a well ventillated place? Sometimes a build up of heat can cause problems. Put your hand on the ps3 to check the temperature. Most of the heat seems to be generated on the right of the machine.
You can also try going to your settings, if it does freeze let it sit. Once it clears through get to 'Restore Default Settings', this will just wipe clean your settings, not your game files. If the ps3 does freeze just wait for it to work again, if after 10-15mins it is still not working you will have to reboot.

| its worse than i thought now it happens to call of duty WAW as well. the ps3 is in a well ventilated area so that can't be the problem. COD5 seems to freeze in the same spot, when playing multiplayer after a match when it is loading to get back to lobby it freezes. Only way to fix is to try quitting game which in turn restarts system, but only after i eject disc. n then i must remove disc while rebooting or disc won't work until i shut the system off. its very strange, i have no idea what to do, i'm pissed cause my warranty expired in May 08. | |

| Does it happen when you are in the XMB or does it only when you are in a game?
Try reset your XMB to it original setting's and update to the latest firmware. What is your NAT type?
Out of curiosity how much have you got left on your HDD?

| it happens during the game, not in the XMB. I have like 4.5 GB of free space. I'm just sick of it freezing every 5-10 minutes. Well thanks everybody for the suggestions. Hopefully i could get it fixed without sending it to Sony for $150. | |

| Try freeing up your hardrive also. 4.5gig is not a lot of space maybe ps3 uses some of the hardrive as memory but not sure about this. | |

| i freed up my hard-drive, i have about 43 GB of free space. I even restored the system after backing up my files. Unfortunately none of these worked, in fact its even worse now. I heard it might be the laser but honestly that's a long shot without sending to Sony. This going to set me a few hundred bucks. Looks like i won't be playing any PS3 for a few months. Well thanks for all the suggestions. | |

Does it happen with all your games or only on 1 or 2 games? I thought it might have been your virtual memory on your ps3 causing it but if you have cleared your HDD it is not the the virtual memory. Does happen when a friend logs in or when you receive a message? I know that Fallout 3 had the same issues but it was patched.

| it happens with any game or movie, basically any disc I place into the system it freezes. That is the only way it freezes, a new issue is it has a hard time recognising the disc and it takes very long to eject the disc. | |

It sounds like your Blu-ray drive is gone The only thing you can do is get Sony to fix it. Is it out warranty? Something similar happened to me and mine was out of warranty by 1 month but I returned to the store were i bought it and they rang Sony and they replaced for free Try your luck they may replace it if it is just out of warranty and if the first person you speak to says no hang up and they a different person; you never know you might get lucky (it happened to me). A word of advice take all your games and movies out of the drive and don't put them back in because you might not get them back (happened to me) and you should buy a 2gig SD card and copy your game saves onto it.

Some people might get it for free if their warranty is only expired 2 months ago but because mine expired 8 months ago I AM F#%KED! well looks like i can't get it repaired, cmon where the hell am i gonna find $315. Anyway thanks for the help, n just pray you never fall into the hands of the dirty corporation whores.

Sorry to hear that m8 :( You should buy a cheap SD card and copy your game save files onto it; then when you get a new ps3 you won't have to reply all of your games
